Formula used in this discount calculator:

Discounted Price = Original Price − (Original Price × Discount Percentage)

Original Price is the initial price of the item or service before any discount is applied.
Discount Percentage is the percentage by which original price is reduced. Means it is the discount percent which the shop owner or the company is giving you on the product.

For Example:

If the product’s original price is Rs 5000 and the store is giving you a 10% discount-

Discounted Price = Rs 5000 − (Rs 5000 × 10%)

= Rs 5000 − (Rs 5000 × 10/100) = Rs 5000 − Rs 500 = Rs 4500

So Discounted Price will be Rs 4500

How much money you saved here? What is your savings? To calculate that formula is simple:

Savings = Original Price − Discounted Price

In this example Your Savings will be = Rs 5000 − Rs 4500 = Rs 500

With the above calculator, you can easily calculate the discounted amount and your savings, but what if you know the original price and the discounted price and you want to calculate the discount percentage? So to solve this, given below is the Discount Percentage Calculator, which will calculate the percentage of discount with the use of the original price and the discounted price.

Formula for Discount Percentage Calculator:

Discount Percentage (%) = {(Original Price − Discounted Price) ÷ Original Price} × 100

Let’s check the formula for percentage calculator with the earlier example:

If Original Price is Rs 5000 and you are getting the product at discounted price of Rs 4500, what will be the discount percentage you are getting on the product’s original price.

Discount Percentage (%) = {(Rs 5000 − Rs 4500) ÷ Rs 5000} × 100

= (500 ÷ 5000) × 100 = 10%

Frequently asked questions:

  • How do you calculate 10% discount?

Let’s assume product’s original price is 1000 and you have to calculate 10% discount on that.

Discount = Original Price × discount percentage %

to remove the percentage you must divide the discount percent by 100

Discount = Original Price × (discount percent ÷ 100) = 1000 × (10 ÷ 100) = 100

So discount is 100

Discounted Price = Original price − discount = 1000 − 100 = 900

So discounted price is 900

  • How do you calculate 20% discount?

This is also frequently asked question and the way to solve it is similar to above. Let’s see-

Let’s assume product’s original price is 1000 and you have to calculate 20% discount on that.

Discount = Original Price × discount percentage %

to remove the percentage you must divide the discount percent by 100

Discount = Original Price × (discount percent ÷ 100) = 1000 × (20 ÷ 100) = 200

So discount is 200

Discounted Price = Original price − discount = 1000 − 200 = 800

So discounted price is 800

  • How to calculate 30 percent discount?

This is also frequently asked question and the way to solve it is similar to above. Let’s see-

Let’s assume product’s original price is 1000 and you have to calculate 30% discount on that.

Discount = Original Price × discount percentage %

to remove the percentage you must divide the discount percent by 100

Discount = Original Price × (discount percent ÷ 100) = 1000 × (30 ÷ 100) = 300

So discount is 300

Discounted Price = Original price − discount = 1000 − 300 = 700

So discounted price is 700
